“Double Agent Retiree” first appears as an entry to the LMIAY challenge, and was read aloud on February 3, 2022 by Ian Kirkpatrick. The LMIAY Challenge is a series of video installments on Youtube, where Ian provides a monthly prompt and writers may submit a creative piece to be featured on the show. The prompt for February 2022 was: superficial, one-dimensional, or fake (or “Stripper Punk” for those daring enough to delve into that). Unfortunately, I was fresh out of antibiotics so I tried my hand at writing a scene that captures a moment in the life of an ex-spy (from a party of former glory) as he struggles to reintegrate with civilization.
