Fear threatens one’s sense of comfort, and has negative effects on an individual’s cognitive thinking skills. This emotion, among others, can be manipulated, but this emotion can also be controlled. Have you ever tried to face your fears? Breaking out of your comfort zone and facing your fears of the unknown may just be the key to unlocking your passage to freedom and a rich fulfilling life. Before you can address your fears you will have to acknowledge where they stem from.
I’m Afraid I’ve Become a Conformist
Fear mongering is a scare tactic used to influence the opinions and actions of people towards a specific end or agenda. Sadly, this is most mainstream media in a nutshell, that is if you understand the meaning behind what it is you're reading, watching, or listening to. When was the last time you based a decision of yours on something you heard in the “news”? Did you hold off from buying that new home or real estate investment, because the news said the economy wasn’t “right” for it? Perhaps you listened to the advice of some of these so called money “gurus”, that cry out that "times are getting tough" (no duh!), "take no risks with debt attached", that saving money today, and making “safe” investments into your 401k/mutual funds are your best bet to build a retirement for tomorrow. Perhaps you have heard of how difficult it is to find a job nowadays. You better not mess up with the one you have or take any “unnecessary” business risks, because you may end up out of work and on the street! Fear, fear, FEAR!
What are You Afraid of?
If one understands what it is they’re watching, reading, or listening to in the news then you can see that all this fear mongering promotes dependency towards higher power, and conformity to the rules set forth by these powers that be. The fear of being ostracized by their peers is enough to keep some really creative people from pursuing their dreams. For most it’s the fear of failing. Today in the Information Age the fear of the unknown has become so prevalent, that it has become a lucrative market made up of the lazy naïve and the misinformed, who will shell out dollars instead of cracking books. Fear can burn a hole in your wallet quicker than greed; just ask the weatherman. The dependency to feel comfortable, to be accepted by peers, to fit in with those within the circle are the strings that pull individuals to this direction or that, once the comfort zone has been disrupted, because most individuals simply don’t know(see "cracking books") any better. It’s that very lack of knowledge that creates bogus fears, which hold an individual from reaching their full potential. The best remedy is a productive use of time. I mean at least once a day, invest just a small portion of time to self-development. Physical exercise is great, but fear is a psychological predator that can only be defeated with wisdom, which makes exercising the mind a must in one’s habitual daily routines.
