There are many theories floating around out there in the vast world-wide-web, trying to debunk this symbolism as having satanic or religious meaning, mysterious ties to the “illuminati” and other secret societies, and capable of having a spellbound enchantment on its owners/users.
In this article, let’s decode the Latin motto “Annuit Coeptis” that is found on the back of the US one dollar bill. I thought this would be a great follow up to an article about appreciation for a couple reasons. One, the dollar is how we measure appreciation for consumer goods and services in a free market capitalist economy. Two, we are steadily approaching the biggest capitalist/consumer holidays of the year.

Favor the Undertakings
Probably the most infamous symbol on the dollar is the “All seeing eye” triangle surrounded by rays of light elevated above an unfinished pyramid and accompanied by the Latin motto “Annuit Coeptis”. This symbol is found on the reverse side of the one dollar bill. The motto, Annuit Coeptis, was suggested in 1782 by Charles Thomson, who was also the founding father chosen by continental congress to come up with the final design for the Great Seal of the United States. The mystery behind its meaning was never fully translated by Thomson but he explained how, in conjunction with the Eye of Providence surrounded by the rays of light above the unfinished pyramid, it symbolizes providence in favor of the American cause. The term “Annuit” literally translates: to nod assent or to favor. The literal translation of the term “Coeptis” means: undertakings, endeavors, or beginnings. The literal translation of the motto has a couple interpretations:
1. Favors Undertakings
2. Providence Favors (our) Undertakings
The first translation is the bare bones meaning of the two terms when put together to form the motto found on the back of the U.S. one dollar bill. The second translation is in a present tense context when combined with the symbolism that accompanies the motto. Some people interpret the meaning as coinciding with the idea of “one nation under God”, by meaning “He (God) favors our undertakings”. This translation of course symbolizes the American Revolution as a victory that was made possible because providence had intervened to enable our independence from Great Britain. Cool story, bro.
If Only “All Seeing” Actually Meant “Everyone Sees”
Forget what you heard or read from some conspiracy theorist on television or the internet, as far as you are concerned, the symbolism has no satanic or evil intent attached to it, nor does it have magical powers enchanted by secret societies in order to mentally enslave you or keep you oppressed. I have noticed how there has been a barrage of people trying to debunk the “secrets” of the dollar since the 2008 economic recession, which most of them come off sounding like idiots, but I guess that is neither here nor there. All the majority of people need to understand about the dollar is that it is a debt note that is used as a universal means for exchange of goods and services, whose value (or purchasing power) is manipulated based on the total amount of debt notes in existence and flow. Fundamentally this means that more money in existence means the less purchasing power that money has and vice versa.
Cash flow is the amount of money that is being put to work within the economy through various financial vehicles. You may have heard someone say “follow the money”, when trying to reason the effects of any kind of economic cause. There is truth to that idea of following the money or the cash flow (paper trail). The Federal Reserve follows the money, as closely as possible, with a little help from the Internal Revenue Service. This ability of the Fed to essentially “see” the cash flow of the entire nation (and the world in respect to international exchange) could be a representation of the “all-seeing” eye on the back of the Federal Reserve note (US dollar). The fact that that piece of the pyramid is above the rest of the unfinished pyramid could be a representation of the Federal Reserve’s power to legally print money and control interest rates, when that kind of activity would be illegal for anyone else. Perhaps I could continue to dwell on how that symbolism makes sense, and end up sounding like your average conspiracy theorist idiot who just happens to know their way around the internet… or perhaps I could share an interpretation of measurable value that could change your life in a positive way, starting today.
Be Careful What You Vote For
In the first literal translation of the Latin motto “Annuit Coeptis” (favors undertakings), it is very important to notice that there is no subject provided. WHO?! Who favors the undertakings, and what undertakings are they favoring? This should be the AHA moment for a motto that is placed on the design of a currency, a debt note that is used as a universal means for exchange of consumer goods and services. The answers you are looking for are found in the mirror. Whenever you exchange dollars for goods and services of any business entity, you are actively favoring the undertakings and/or the endeavors of those entities, and your dollars represent your votes/endorsement for their missions!
If the US dollar is the world reserve currency, and the United States is a capitalist country, then this means that all debt notes count as votes/endorsements for a corporate entity’s behaviors, beliefs, and missions. We vote for politicians and guide the political resolve of our government at the booths, but that only grants the people who do actually go out and vote, the right to “talk the talk”. Now, how many of you voters are willing to “walk the walk”, no matter how hard that may seem, by putting your money where your mouth is at the checkouts?
· Whose behaviors are you rewarding with an allowance?
· Whose beliefs are you coinciding with by coining them?
· Whose missions are you actively funding?
