You can make money online as a ghostwriter, and you can do it without even being a writer yourself! Trying to earn a living online as a writer can get very competitive, but if you think like an entrepreneur than it can be as simple as these three thoughts:
1. Showcase Your Skills/business to Numerous Outlets that allow you to promote
2. Network with hungry writers who have strong writing skills
3. Advertise your services and make sales
Seriously, this is the formula I apply to make money as a ghostwriter. I write every day, but I’ve made money without actually writing the content as well. You can too, because writing plays such a crucial role in online marketing. It’s a requirement for any serious business owner to incorporate with their website if they want to attract new/frequent visitors.

Build a Reputation as a Freelancer
It’s pretty much a reoccurring tactic in anything you do online, that you will need some sort of promotion or marketing to “get the word around town”, who you are and what you do. If you want to make money as a writer online, simply placing an ad on Craigslist and waiting for a reply won’t cut the mustard. If you are going to be taken seriously then you must be willing to lay down the foundation by registering with multiple social media platforms and engaging with others on a daily basis.
In instances where I have made money writing for others I’ve had to provide examples of my work. If you are just getting started and have yet to put together a portfolio, then starting your own blog is still the best way to showcase your own work, or what your company can produce.
Where to Find Writers
I have made some easy money selling copyrights to intellectual property, or for the lame selling blogs, without so much as contributing a single word to the article. This sounds like a juicy concept if you aren’t so savvy when it comes to the written word, huh? You may not find much work as a writer posting your services on Craigslist, but people will fill your inbox if you put out a wanted ad for writers. Some people will even send you resumes! Select the most qualified writers, based on examples of their work, enthusiasm, and experience. You aren’t looking for a pro, they’ll expect too much, you are just looking for someone who understands proper grammar and how a spellcheck works.
Selling a Writing Service
There’s the cliché approach to selling a ghostwriter service, and that’s promoting within writer forums. Let me share what I’m doing and how I’ve made money with ghostwriting services. Get that list of writers you collected ready.
The network technique doesn’t require you to write any content or research any topics. I created a free account on GhostBloggers and on your profile’s dashboard there is a section that says “Recently Requested Articles”. Simply click on any of the topics from that list and you will get all the details you need to pass onto which ever writer you decide to assign the task to. I would pay my writers an immediate upfront payment at 1/3 for what I could sell the article for. I suppose you could find some writers who may be willing to go without upfront pay if that meant they could split a larger chunk of the profits if the article sold or “gets used”. I have made easy money cutting and pasting assignments into an e-mail to my writers, and then cutting/pasting a finished article to GhostBloggers submission box.
The independent technique may take a little more time. You should build up your rep and credibility online, but instead of spamming craigslist or forums for work I suggest building a free Elance profile. The object here is to have a place where you can send people, who may be interested in getting answers to some frequently asked questions about the service you offer. They can also see your rates, experience, work history (only within Elance), and other information as a freelancer for hire. On Elance, you don’t need to be a master marketer for your service. You can simply search through the “Find Work” tab and make proposals on some projects. I haven’t made any proposals yet, but please feel free to comment any experience you may have had with making money on Elance.
