In part one, we discussed the differences between web design and web development. It hasn’t taken me very long to figure out the model behind a living breathing website. Think of web design and development as the embodiment of your business. Once your business has a body, you are going to want to give your business a voice. This is how your website becomes a brand, and where content creators come in handy.
Become a Content Mogul
Copywriter
· Can be a blogger, publicist, author, and/or ghost writer
· Creates written content, which will ultimately serve as either internal or external marketing for a website.
· The copywriter’s skill set revolves around coming up with searchable/relevant topics, and subject matter that fits a website’s niche.
· Internet Copywriters have a general understanding of the use of keywords in relation to search engine optimization. (see SEO in part 3)
I’ve hired copywriters and I have been hired as a copywriter/ghostwriter since I have started doing business online, and I can safely say this is one of the most competitive markets on the internet. When I say competitive, how much gets paid is defined by the context of the transaction, for any particular piece of written content. Some authors offer content completely free of charge, like members of MyBlogGuest, for the purpose of increasing their authority as a blogger in the industry. There are ghostwriters at GhostBloggers that sell copyrights to their content to third party publishers, in upwards of forty dollars per article, and then you have writers for hire at Elance.
Graphic Designer
· The artists responsible for photos, ads, templates, logos, and other visual content on a website.
· Skill sets can include: Javascript, Photoshop, Adobe Flash, and other multimedia editing tools
· Works with web designers to design templates and graphics for webpage layouts
· Works with web publishers (see part 3), to create visual content to accompany blog entries, social media posts, infographics, advertising, and marketing campaigns.
· Graphic designers may also create graphics for business related schwag and products, like mugs, t-shirts, business cards, etc.
Other Multimedia Content Creators
· Video Production (filming/editing)
· Video Bloggers or Vloggers
· Sound Engineers
· Podcasting (I consider this audio blogging, and can be similar to radio programming)
Giving your Website Life
Content is king when it comes to keeping your website/brand relevant with your audience and converting new customers/clients. Your website must consistently create new intellectual and digital property/content to offer visitors, or else visitors will eventually stop visiting if there is never anything new. This is why any website, I don’t care if the site only sells wristbands, should have a blog. The content from a blog adds to the number of indexed pages with search engines, and this leads us to the importance of internet marketing and search engine optimization.
