Why it’s Okay to Be Lazy

When you think about the word lazy you probably think about sitting around the house doing nothing all day long. That is one way to be lazy. The word lazy is clearly defined as someone who is:

1. Unwilling to work or use energy

2. Characterized by lack of effort or activity

3. Showing a lack of effort or Care

Now believe it or not, many entrepreneurs have garnered profitable ventures that have led to their success, thanks to their laziness. The word lazy does not need to be wrapped in a shroud of negativity, because lazy can also mean becoming successful minus the stressful (labor).

The Two Types of Lazy

There are two types of lazy people. People who are too lazy to work, and those who work in order to be lazy. You can have a job and still be considered too lazy to work. Are you confused yet? People who work in order to be lazy gain success by using their lazy mentality as motivation (almost out of desperation) to put themselves in a position to intercept opportunities that bring them closer to their goals. People who are too lazy to work are slow to progress, because they are typically the same type of individual that can accept defeat. They go through life looking like stoic cow waiting for the slaughter. They may be annoyed by running the same dead end routines over and over every day, but they are unwilling to make efforts towards change (perhaps thinking “it gets better”?).

It’s All About the Follow-Through

If it wasn’t for laziness, everyone would still be banging rocks together for entertainment, and rubbing sticks for fire. Call it being efficient if you would like, but human beings have been creating innovations that further enable our lazy nature ever since the wheel was invented. It’s okay to be lazy, but at least follow through with it! Learn to use your lazy nature in your favor by combining it with a “how can I” attitude to recognize opportunities for yourself. Once you have recognized an opportunity, use your lazy nature (or loathing for labor) as motivating energy to, quite ironically might I add, work towards following through with the venture. Following-through means see it all the way to the end result, not start something and end it half way through just before any real results. If you’re going to be someone who works in order to be lazy, then don’t half ass it!
